Susan Walton Brown Obituary
June 18, 1925 - Caribou, Aroostook, Maine, USA
Mrs Susan Brown, aged 94 years, five months and one day, wife of the late George B. Brown, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie M. Brown, on the East Presque Isle road, June 18th, after an illness of five months. Mrs. Brown, the daughter of the late Charles and Lydia Ann Walton, was born in Fort Fairfield January 19th, 1831, on what is now known as the Kinney farm. In 1847 she was united in marriage to George B. Brown and soon afterwards moved to this place which at that time was a primeval forest, the only highways being the river and footpaths through the forest. In 1861 her husband enlisted in the Civil War, leaving her at home with a family of five children to care for. Being a true Christian and putting her trust in God she won through four years of hardshlp until he returned in 1865. Mrs. Brown was blessed with nine children, of whom six are now living, Eliza Bubar, James W., Geo. B., Robert, Jennie M. and Al, who have the sympathy of a host of friends in their bereavement. She also lived to see the fifth generation, an occurrence which is very rare. She possessed a bright and cheerful disposition which won for her a multitude of friends who will not forgot her many acts of kindness. The funeral was held at the Holy Rosary Chruch on June 20th a ten o'clock. The floral offerings were beautiful and numerous. Her suffering ended with the day. Yet lived she at its close, And breathed the long, long night away, In statue like repose. But when the son, in all his state Illuminated the eastern skies, She passed through glory's morning gate, And walked In Paradise.
